Nigerian-American Navy Officer Achieves Historic Promotion.

The Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated Navy Captain Kelechi Ndukwe on his promotion to commanding officer of the USS Halsey (DDG-97) missile destroyer.

In a statement, Dabiri-Erewa described the promotion as “well-deserved” and praised Captain Ndukwe’s dedication, resilience, and hard work in the US Navy.

Captain Ndukwe, a Nigerian-American, has served in multiple warships globally, including the Mediterranean Sea, Horn of Africa, Arabian Gulf, and Western Pacific Ocean. His 18-year career in the US Navy began in 2003 as an auxiliaries officer.

Mrs. Dabiri-Erewa commended Captain Ndukwe for embodying the Nigerian spirit and wished him a successful tenure and protection in his new assignment.

Captain Ndukwe’s promotion marks a significant milestone, making him the first Nigerian to command the USS Halsey.
