REPORT ON ONGOING MILITARY OPERATIONS BY THE ARMED FORCES OF NIGERIA AS AT 18 APRIL 2024

JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION HADIN KAI (NORTH EAST)

  1. Troops of Operation HADIN KAI recorded the following activities during the period under review; arrested terrorists collaborators and suppliers, conducted cordon and search operations, conducted offensive patrols to Bama, Konduga, Damboa and Kaga LGAs of Borno State as well as Gujba and Tarmuwa LGAs of Yobe State.
  2. The theatre recorded the surrendering of BH/ISWAP terrorists combatants and their families in Bama and Gwoza LGAs of Borno State. As well as conduction clearance operation in Bama LGA of Borno State. They also, conducted raid operations to BH/ISWAP terrorists hideout in Tarmuwa LGA of YOBE State,
  3. Details as follows:

a. Arrest of Terrorists Collaborators/Logistics Suppliers. On 8 April 2024 in separate operations, troops with Civilians JTF conducted cordon and search operations around BH/ISWAP terrorists locations in Damboa, Biu and Gujba LGAs of Borno and Yobe States. During the operations, troops arrested 4 BH/ISWAP terrorists logistics suppliers and 2 collaborators. Troops recovered 3 mobile phones, the sum of One Hundred and Forty-One Thousand Nine Hundred Naira (N141,900.00) only, and other sundry items.
b. Cordon and Search Operations. Sequel to the arrest of a terrorists Commander named Saidu Hassan Yellow (Khaid) on 9 April 2024. Troops conducted cordon and search operations at the terrorists Commander’s hideout Mubi LGA of Adamawa State and discovered an uncompleted building where the suspect lives. Troops recovered 3 Ak47 rifles, one locally made pistol, 150 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammo, 5 rounds of 9mm ammo, one 36 Hand grenades and 6 notes of fake $100.00 USD. However, the terrorists claimed that the items belong to one Mohammed Jibrin who visited him 3 weeks before the fasting.
d. Clearance Operations. On 9 and 10 April 2024 in separate operations, troops with Hybrid Forces and Civilians JTF conducted clearance operation to BH/ISWAP terrorist enclaves in Bama LGA of Borno State and made contact. Following a fire fight, troops neutralized 14 BH/ISWAP terrorists and rescued 17 terrorists family members while others fled. Troops recovered 8 AK 47 rifles 3 locally fabricated guns, 6 dane gun, 307 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 108 rnds of 7.62 mm NATO ammo, 26 live cartridges, 4 empty AK 47 rifle magazines one M16 rifle magazine, one Baofeng radio.
c. Offensive Operations. On 10 – 16 April 2024, troops conducted fighting patrol to terrorists enclaves in Bama, Konduga, Damboa and Kaga LGAs of Borno State as well as Gujba and Tarmuwa LGAs of Yobe State. During the operations contact made, troops neutralized 16 terrorists and recovered 9 AK 47 rifles, 7 Dane guns, one 105 mm PH Gun 128 rnds of 7.62 mm NATO ammo, 203 rounds of 7.62 mm Special ammo, 2 improvised hand grenades, 4 empty AK 47 rifle magazines, one M16 rifle magazines, 4 MRAP tyres other weapons and equipment destroyed by aircraft among others.
d. Arrest of Suspected ISWAP/JAS Terrorists Logistics Suppliers. Between 11 – 15 April 2024, troops while on patrol in Baga, Askira Uba, Biu, Mafa and Gubio as well as Ganbaru Ngala and Geidam LGAs of Borno and Yobe States. During the operations, troops arrested 18 terrorists/criminals. Troops recovered 70 rounds of 7.62mm x 54mm ammo, 4 vehicles, truck loaded with 250 jerricans of PMS, truck loaded with Arabic gum worth the sum of Two Million Naira (N2,000,000.00) only, large quantities of Cannabis Sativa (Indian Hemp) and cigarettes and the sum of N501,400. only.
e. Surrender of BH/ISWAP Terrorists.
(1) On 8 and 9 April 2024, a total of 18 combatant BH/ISWAP terrorists member and their families comprising of 2 adult male, 5 females and 11 children surrendered to troops in Bama and Gwoza LGAs of Borno State. Terrorists surrendered with 2 AK 47 rifles, 2 AK 47 magazines each containing 17 and 19 rounds of 7.62 mm ammo, 2 bicycles and 2 mobile phones.
(2) Between 12 – 15 April 2024, a total of 103 suspected BH/ISWAP/JAS members and family comprising of 24 adult males, 21 adult females and 58 children surrendered to troops in Gwoza, Bama, Kala Balge, Mafa LGA of Borno State. Terrorists surrendered with 450 rnds of 7.62 mm Special ammo, 150 rnds of 7.62 mm NATO ammo, 10 rounds of 9 mm ammo, 27 mobile phones and the sum of Nine Thousand Two Hundred Naira (N9,200.00) only.
f, Raid Operations. On 15 April 2024, troops with Civilians JTF raided a BH/ISWAP terrorists hideout in Tarmuwa LGA of YOBE State but the terr fled on sighting troops. During the operation, troops recovers 4 AK 47 rifles, 139 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo and 2 motorcycles. Rec items are in tps’ custody for further action.

  1. Air Interdiction. On 13 April 2024, the air component of Operation HADIN KAI conducted air strike on ISWAP/JAS terrorists hideouts and logistics hub including their food processing unit in Kolleram village along Lake Chad. Battle Damage Assessment revealed that over 30 terrorists including senior commanders; Ali Dawud, Bakura Fallujah and Mallam Ari were neutralized as well as their logistics destroyed a result of the strike.

SUMMARY

  1. Overall, troops of Operation HADIN KAI neutralized 71 terrorists, arrested 143 suspects and rescued 58 kidnappers hostages. Troops recovered 62 AK47 rifles, 3 PKT guns, 15 fabricated guns, 14 dane guns, one hand grenade, 948 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 617 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 70 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm ammo, one round of 105mm ammo, 10 magazines, 3 baofeng radios, 11 motorcycles, 16 mobile phones and the sum of 652,700.00 amongst others.

JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION SAFE HAVEN (NORTH CENTRAL)

  1. Troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN recorded the following during the period under review. Troops arrested notorious cattle rustler/criminal, conducted fighting patrols to criminal hideout in Kaura, Mangu, Jos N Riyom and Barkin Ladi of Kaduna and Plateau State.
  2. Details are as follows:  a. Arrests of Notorious Cattle Rustler/Criminals. On 8 April 2024, following reports on cattle rustling activities, troops conducted raid operations to Jos South LGA of Plateau State and arrested one notorious cattle rustler named Baba Abdulahi who is on the wanted list of security agencies. The suspect was found with injuries and 4 rustled cows.
    b. fighting patrol. Between 10 – 15 April 2024, troops while on patrol to Kaura, Mangu, Jos N Riyom and Barkin Ladi of Kaduna and Plateau State. During the operations, troops arrested 6 violent extremists/criminals and recovered one fabricated pistol, 2 fabricated guns, 2 USD notes, a car key, 18 rustled cow and 4 mobile phones.
    c. Herders Militias Attack on Locals. On 13 and 15 April 2024, troops responded to information on herder militias attack on locals in Mangu and Bokkos LGAs of PLATEAU State but no contact was made. On arrival, troops discovered that the criminals had killed 7 civilians and injured 13 others as well as burnt a church and one house troops conducted cordon and search of the general area and recovered 3 locally fabricated rifle, 2 AK47 rifles, 60 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo and 15 cartridges.
    d. Offensive Operations. On 15 April 2024, troops responded to information on armed robbery activities in Bokkos and Jos East LGAs of Plateau State. On arrival, troops arrested 3 criminals and recovered 2 fabricated gun 34 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo.

SUMMARY

  1. Overall, troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN neutralized 4 insurgents, arrested 36 violent extremists and rescued 4 kidnapped hostages. Troops recovered 5 AK47 rifle, 7 fabricated guns, one fabricated pistols, one fabricated pistol, 303 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 72 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 15 live cartridges, 2 motorcycle and 4 mobile phones amongst others.

OPERATION WHIRL STROKE (NORTH CENTRAL)

  1. Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE recorded the following during the week under review; arrested violent extremists/terrorist, raided BH/ISWAP terrorists hideouts conducted fighting patrols to Apa, Katsina-Ala, Ukum, Takum and Bali LGAs of Benue and Taraba States.
  2. Troops also, responded to counter, anti kidnapping and criminality operations, arrested an imposter as well as boosted a gunrunning syndicate in Jalingo LGA of Taraba State.
  3. Details are as follows: 

a. Arrest of Violent Extremist/Terrorists. On 8 April 2024, troops with vigilantes conducted offensive operations to Ussa LGA of Taraba State and made contact with violent extremist/terrorists. Following a fire fight, troops neutralized 12 terrorists and recovered 8 AK 47 rifles, 2 dane guns, 205 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammo and 87 rounds of 7.62mm x 39mm ball.
b. Raid Operations. On 8 April 2024, troops and DSS personnel raided a BH/ISWAP terrorists hideout in Awe LGA of Nasarawa State. During the operations, troops arrested one high profile BH/ISWAP terrorists member named Abdullahi Ibrahim (aka Baban Bola) with 7 others who were on the DSS Wanted List. Troops recovered 3 Ak47 rifles, 2 locally made pistol, 3 fabricated guns, 124 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo and 71 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammo.
c. Fighting Patrols.
(1) On 9 April 2024, troops conducted fighting patrol to Guma LGA of Benue State. During the operations, troops arrested a vigilante member and recovered one locally made pistol.
(2) On 11 April 2024, troops while on patrol responded to information about a fight among some herders using children apparatus at Snake Farm in Keffi LGA of Nasarawa State. On troops arrival to calm the situation. However, one of the herders pulled his cutlass and chopped off the hand of 96NA/41/2317 SSgt Hamman Musa from the wrist and fled. troops went in pursuit and arrested one of the herders.
d. Offensive Operations. Between 10 – 15 April 2024, troops conducted fighting patrol to Apa, Katsina-Ala, Ukum, Takum and Bali LGAs of Benue and Taraba States made contact but the criminals fled. Troops exploited the general areas and recovered 6 AK 47 Rifle, 2 Dane guns, 4 magazines, 177 rounds of 7.62 39mm ball, 57 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammo, one vehicle and 3 motorcycles.
e. Counter/Anti Kidnapping/Criminality Operations. On 12 – 15 April 2024, troops responded to information violent extremists activities in Katsina-ALA, Zaki-Biam, Ukum and Gwer W LGAs of Benue State. On arrival, troops neutralized 12 violent extremist, arrested one criminal and rescued 2 hostages. Troops recovered 2 Dane guns, 4 fabricated rifles, one Baretta pistol with 8 rounds of 9mm ball para ammo, 247 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 122 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammo among others.
c. Arrest of Imposter. On 13 April 2024, troops arrested a suspected imposter in Karu LGA of Nasarawa State. Investigation revealed that the criminal is a dismissed soldier who was dismissed in 2019.
c. Arrest of Members of Gunrunning Syndicate. On 14 April 2024, troops with Vigilante arrested one Mallam Mansir Mohd a suspected gunrunner in Jalingo LGA of Taraba State. Following the arrest, troops trailed other members of the gun running syndicate and arrested 3 suspects with their leader named Zainu Rufai. Troops recovered 3 pump action gun, one locally made gun, one veh, 5 mobile phones and the sum of Forty Five Thousand Naira (N45,000.00) only.

SUMMARY 

  1. Overall, troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE neutralized 25 terrorists, arrested 17 violent extremists and rescued 4 kidnapped hostages. Troops recovered 17 AK47 rifles, 8 fabricated rifles, 6 dane guns, 3 locally made pistol, one barretta pistol, 3 pump action, 331 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 252 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 164 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ball ammo, 2 vehicle, 3 motorcycles and 5 mobile phones amongst others.

JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION HADARIN DAJI (NORTH WEST)

  1. The troops of Operation HADARIN DAJI recorded the following during the period under review; conducted offensive operations to notorious terrorists kingpin hideout Yellow Jambros Camp and neutralized criminals, arrested a criminal in possession of ammunition, conducted a rescued mission, responded to violent extremist activities in Zurmi, Anka, Maru Iisa LGAs of Zamfara.
  2. Details are as follows;

a. Offensive Operations.
(1). On 8 and 9 April 2024, troops conducted offensive operations to Maru LGA of Zamfara State and to a notorious terrorists kingpin Yellow Janbros camp. During the operations contact was made and troops neutralized 13 while several others fled with gunshot wounds as well as rescued 3 hostages. Troops exploited the general area and recovered 11 AK 47 rifles, 4 locally fabricated guns, one dane gun, one locally made pistol, 4 AK 47 magazines 430 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 128 rounds of 7,62mm NATO, 4 rounds of 9mm ammo, 4 motorcycles among other items.
(2). Similarly, on 11 April 2024, troops conducted the same operations and cleared Maru LGA of Zamfara State and contact was made. Troops neutralized 23 terrorists and recovered 16 AK 47 rifle, 7 dane guns, 3 fabricated guns, 11 magazines, 502 rounds of 7.62mm, 183 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammo, 18 cattles and 10 motorcycles.
b. Arrest of Criminal. On 9 April 2023, troops while on patrol in Kaura Namoda LGA arrested one Lawali Musa in possession of 190 rounds of 7.62mm special and 11 blank ammo, the sum of N206,000.00, 1 Techno phone, vigilante ID card, 1 torch light and local charms. Investigation revealed that the he is a member of vigilante from Lajinge village on errand to deliver the ammo to one Bashir, vice chairman of Godal vigilante in Birnin Magaji LGA. When Bashir was contacted, the Godal vigilante admitted ownership of the ammunition. The Godal vigilante have been invited for further investigation.
c. Rescue Mission. On 14 April 2024, troops with a team from Office of the National Security Adviser undertook a mission to Kunchin Kalgo Village in Tsafe LGA of Zamfara State to rescue the remaining abducted students and staff of the federal University of Gusau who were abducted by terrorists in October 2023. During the operation, troops rescued 10 hostages comprising of 6 female student and 4 staff of the university. Similarly, on 12 April 2024, 3 of the abducted students and staff of the university were earlier released and handed over to troops at Dansadau in Maru LGA of Zamfara State. In total 13 of the student and staff of the university were rescued within the week under review.
d. Violent Extremists Activities. Between 11 – 14 April 2024, troops conducted fighting patrols to Zurmi, Anka, Maru Iisa LGAs of Zamfara and made contact with terrorists/criminals. Following a firefight, troops neutralized 13 violent extremists while other fled with gunshot wounds. Troops rescued 3 victims and recovered 8 AK 47 Rifles, 7 dane guns 4 AK47 magazine and 330 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammo, 11 cartridges, one locally fabricated Revolver frame, 6 vehicles among others.

SUMMARY 

  1. Overall, troops of Operation HADARIN DAJI neutralized 62 terrorists, arrested 49 terrorists and rescued 36 kidnapped hostages. Troops recovered 47 AK47 rifles, 14 fabricated guns, 8 dane guns, one locally fabricated revolver gun, 1,452 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 428 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 40 rounds of 9mm ammo, 17 magazines, one boafeng radio, 11 motorcycles, 14 mobile phones amonsgt other items.

JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION WHIRL PUNCH (NORTH WEST)

  1. Troops of Operation WHIRL PUNCH recorded the following during the week under review. Troops arrested drug peddlers/criminals, arrested sect of violent extremists in Ibadan North LGA of Oyo State.
  2. Details are as follows;

a. Arrest of Drugs Peddlers/Criminals.
(1) On 8 April 2024, troops arrested 2 and intercepted a vehicle laden with 620 parcels substances suspected to be marijuana weighing over 310 kg in Lokoja LGA of Kogi State. One suspect absconded while search was ongoing, while the other identified as Aliyu Lawal.
(2) On 9 April 2024 following a credible information, troops in Zangon Kataf LGA of Kaduna State arrested a murderer named Muhammed Suleiman Salisu in connection with murder of Ardo Saleh at Dutsen Bako village in Zangon Kataf LGA of Kaduna State.
(3) On 9 April 2024, troops while conducting stop and search patrol intercepted a vehicle with 2 occupants in Jama’a LGA of Kaduna State. On searching the vehicle, troops recovered one bag of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa.
b. Arrest of Violent Extremists. On 13 April 2024, troops responded to information on attack in Ibadan North LGA of Oyo State and made contact with Yoruba Nation militia. Following a fire fight with the violent extremists fled, troops went on pursuit and arrested 9 violent extremists. Troops recovered 5 AK47 rifles, one shotgun, 2 dane guns, one pump action, 1,194 rounds of cartridges, 209 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 7 pairs of boots, 9 berets, 4 belts, one digital camera, 3 fragment jackets, 10 Yoruba Nation flags, 8 mobile phone, 4 handheld radios among other sundry items.

SUMMARY 

  1. Overall, troops of Operation WHIRL PUNCH arrested 14 criminals and recovered 5 AK47 rifles, one shotgun, 2 dane guns, one pump action, 1,194 rounds of cartridges, 209 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 7 pairs of boots, 9 berets, 4 belts, one digital camera, 3 fragment jackets, 620 parcels substances suspected to be marijuana , 10 Yoruba Nation flags, 8 mobile phone, 4 handheld radios among other sundry items.

JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION DELTA SAFE (SOUTH SOUTH)

  1. Troops of Operation DELTA SAFE maintained momentum against the activities of crude oil theft. Troops destroyed several illegal refining sites and recovered stolen products. Additionally, troop arrested illegal bunkerers and conducted raid operations to Southern Ijaw and Akinima LGA of Bayelsa and Rivers State as well as Calabar Municipal of Cross River State.
  2. Details as follows:

a. Troops Destroy Illegal Refining Sites. Troops recovered 792,660 litres of stolen crude oil and 117,070 litres of illegally refined AGO. Additionally, troops discovered and destroyed 99 dugout pits, 11 boats and 29 storage tanks. Other items recovered include 192 cooking ovens, 9 vehicles and 31 illegal refining sites.
b. Arrest of Illegal Bunkerers/Cultists.
(1) On 8 April 2024 following intelligence reports, troops arrested 3 oil thieves/bunkersers, discovered and destroyed an active IRS with 2 cooking ovens, 4 receivers loaded with illegally refined AGO, 35 sacks loaded with illegally refined AGO, one tricycle and a wheelbarrow in Udu LGA of Delta State.
(2) On 14 April 2024, troops while conducting snap checks in in Ethiope W LGA of Delta State, arrested 4 suspected cultists in a vehicle. Tps recovered one locally fabricated pistol, 4 cartridge, 9 mobile phones and other sundry items.
c. Raid Operations. On 9 April 2024, troops conducted raid operation in Southern Ijaw and Akinima LGAs of Bayelsa and Rivers States and arrest 3 criminal. Troops 4 AK 47 rifles, 7 x magazine, 150 rounds of 5.5mm special ammo, 2 Baofeng radio, 1 mobile phone.
d. On 12 April 2024, troops while on patrol in Calabar Municipal of Cross River State arrested the Deputy Comdt of Nigerian Legion Cross River State Chapter and one other. The arrested was following an allegation of illegal acquisition of military accoutrements and issuance of same to his boys for suspected criminality purposes. Troops recovered one locally made pistol and a pair of woodland camouflage.

SUMMARY

  1. Overall, troops of Operation DELTA SAFE recovered 792,660 litres of stolen crude oil and 117,070 litres of illegally refined AGO. Additionally, troops discovered and destroyed 99 dugout pits, 11 boats and 29 storage tanks. Other items recovered include 192 cooking ovens, 9 vehicles and 31 illegal refining sites.
  2. Troops apprehended 27 suspected oil thefts and other violent extremists. Troops recovered 5 weapons and 162 assorted ammunitions.

JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION UDO KA (SOUTH EAST)

  1. Troops of Operation UDO KA recorded the following during the week under review; conducted raid operations and fighting patrols made contact with Ezza militias, conducted fighting patrols, arrested an imposter and conduct of fighting patrol to violent violent extremists as well as IPOB/ESN hideouts in Orlu LGAs of Imo States.
  2. Details as follows:

a. Raid Operation. On 8 April 2024, troops while on patrol raided a criminal hideout at Akpabuyo LGA of Cross River State and arrested one criminal and recovered 2 Pump Actions, 40 live cartridges and 4 matchets.
b. Fighting Patrol. On 10 and 15 April 2024, troops while on fighting patrol made contact with members of Ezza militias in Ohaukwu LGA of Ebonyi State and but the criminals fled. troops exploited their withdrawal rote and recovered one fabricated Rifle, 3 AK 47 magazines, 97 rounds of 9mm ammo, 230 rounds of 7.62 mm Special ammo, 80 rounds of 55mm special ammo.
c. Arrest of Imposter. On 13 April 2024, in Ishielu LGA of Ebonyi State while on patrol arrested one Mr Solomon Nwinya, a dismissed soldier who paraded himself as serving LCpl intimidating/ harassing locals troops recovered 2 cartridge, 3 cam T-shirts, one complete woodland cam uniform, one HH radio and one mobile phone.
d. Offensive Op. On 15 April 2024, troops while on fighting patrol made contact with IPOB/ESN violent extremists Orlu LGAs of Imo States during the operations, troops neutralized 4 violent extremists/IPOB members and recovered 2 fabricated Rifles, one AK 47 rifles, 2 magazines, 41 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammo ammo, 87 rounds of 7.62 mm Special ammo, 18 rounds of 55mm special ammo, 10 empty cases of cartridges, 5 mobile phones among others

SUMMARY

  1. Overall, troops of Operation UDO KA neutralized 9 terrorists, arrested 11 violent extremists and rescued 17 kidnapped hostages. Troops recovered 4 AK47 rifles, 3 pump action guns, one locally made pistols, 3 fabricated gun, 2 magazines, 317 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 98 rounds of 55mm special ammo, 97 rounds of 9mm ammo, 54 live cartridges, 2 vehicle, one motorcycles, 5 mobile phones. All recovered items, arrested suspects and rescued hostages were handed over to the relevant authority for further action.

PRESS RELEASE ON ONGOING MILITARY OPERATIONS BY THE ARMED FORCES OF NIGERIA AS AT 14 MARCH 2024

  1. The prerequisite of ongoing counter insurgency and counter terrorism operations by the military across the country is defeating the terrorist and dismantling their military, administrative and political capabilities. Accordingly, through our operations we are continually boxing in the terrorist and dismantling their resupply routes.
  2. The military is working decisively to kill the terrorist, dismantle their networks and create conditions whereby they cannot carry out acts of terror or harm citizens. It is for these reasons that the armed forces would continue to hunt the leadership of these terrorist groups everywhere across these theatres of operations.
  3. Being a professional force, due diligence by way of Intelligence, Surveillance and Recogniance is painstakingly taken to distinguish the terrorist before air strikes are conducted. These air strikes have resulted in the death of several of these terrorist leaders and the cohorts hibernating in enclaves across the theatres of operation.
  4. It therefore should not be surprising, that these terrorist and their sympathisers plot on blackmailing the military as a result of these air strikes. The plot is to depict some casualties as innocent citizens rather than cohorts of these terrorist. It is therefore important for the media to be wary of the antics of these terrorist groups and their sympathisers. Our operations have prevented these evil elements from accomplishing their strategic objectives.
  5. During the period under review, troops neutralised 192 terrorists and arrested 341 persons, while rescuing 62 kidnapped hostages. A total of 122 ISWAP/JAS combatant terrorist surrendered with their family members. Troops also arrested 37 perpetrators of oil theft. In the SS, troops denied oil theft of the estimated sum of Eight Hundred and Twenty One Million Two Hundred and Forty Eight Thousand Seven Hundred and Forty Naira (N821,248,740.00) only.
  6. Furthermore, troops recovered 211 assorted weapons and 6,288 assorted ammunition. The breakdown as follows: 128 AK47 rifles, 26 dane guns among other items. Others are: 1,301 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 3,260 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 1,325 live cartridges, 140 round of 9mm ammo among other items.
  7. Troops in the Niger Delta area discovered and destroyed 99 dugout pits, 36 storage tanks and 192 cooking ovens. During the process the troops recovered 349,970 litres of stolen crude oil, 112,135 litres of illegally refined AGO, 7,560 litres of DPK and 13,000 litres of PMS.
  8. The military recognises that there is still a challenging and tough war campaign still ahead . Overall, our objective is to defeat the terrorist and their cohorts by denying them the ability to continue to fight.
  9. The lifeline of these terrorist groups is the people. Winning the war without the support of the people is close to impossible. It is for this reason, we encourage the civil populace and civil societies to galvanise  support in a whole of society approach to facilitate the total defeat of these terrorist. The time is now for citizens to know that they have a responsible to the nation.
  10. For instance, a cursory look at our security situation shows that it is unique, in the sense of being self inflicted. Beginning with the Boko Haram Terrorist  in the NE. The illegal mining and kidnapping enterprise  in the NW and NC, these are perpetrated under the guise of terrorism. The agitation of IPOB in the SE have proven to be for self engrandisement. Then, the call for a Yoruba Nation which is laughable. All these buttress how our security situation is self inflicted in the country.

11.  These acts are against the constitution and therefore unacceptable for persons or groups to take up arms against a constituted govrrnment. Anyone or group that contravenes this provision of the constitution is inviting severe military action and would be dealth with decisively.

  1. Above all, the fighting spirit of our men and women in uniform is strong, resilient, focused, proud and committed . We understand that we have no choice but to continue to fight to defeat  the enemy and create a safer environment for citizens.
