Central African Republic To Sign Military Agreement With Russia.

The Central African Republic (CAR) is set to sign a comprehensive agreement with Russia on military supplies, education, and cooperation, according to CAR Defense Minister Claude Rameaux Bireau. The minister, currently on a visit to Russia, revealed that talks have already been held with Russian companies and expressed interest in Russian artillery and military education developments.

However, Russian Ambassador to CAR Alexander Bikantov clarified that the construction of a Russian military base in CAR is not on the agenda for discussion during the minister’s visit. Despite previous suggestions by CAR President Faustin Archange Touadera, the ambassador stated that the topic is not currently active and no substantive discussions are taking place regarding the establishment of a base.

The number of Russian instructors in CAR, currently at 1,890, is also not expected to increase. Nevertheless, their efforts have been effective in reducing armed groups in the country, with only small bands of bandits remaining near the borders. The CAR Defense Minister acknowledged the progress made in collaboration with Russian instructors, particularly in remote regions.

This development marks a significant step in the military cooperation between the Central African Republic and Russia, with the agreement poised to enhance the CAR’s military capabilities and education.
