Troops Eliminates 165 Terrorists, 75 Hostages Rescue, Arrests Over 343 Suspects- DHQ.

Defence Headquarters (DHQ)says it’sTroops eliminated 165 Terrorists, 75 hostages Rescued, Arrested  over 343 Suspects in their ongoing military operations across the country.

The Director Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba made this known to newsmen during a bi-weekly media on Thursday in Abuja.

According to him,

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI recorded the following activities during the week under review; surrendering of BH/ISWAP/JAS terrorists fighters and families, conducted ambush and raid operations as well as arrest of suspected BH/ISWAP terrorists collaborators and informants in Bama, Mafa, Dikwa, Gwoza and Monguno LGAs of Borno State as well as Geidam and Gombi LGAs of Yobe and Adamawa States.

2. Details as follows:

a. Surrender of ISWAP/JAS Terr and Family Members.
(1) Between 21 and 23 May 2024, a total of 104 BH/ISWAP/JAS terrorists fighters and their families comprising of 13 adult males, 29 adult females and 61 children surrendered to troops in Mafa, Bama, Gwoza and Monguno LGAs of Borno State. During the operations, troops recovered 23 AK47 rifles, 4 dane guns, 651 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 340 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, one warhead of AA round, 11 magazines, 2 baofeng radios and the sum N91,000.00 only amongst others.
(2) Between 22 and 28 May 24, a total of 475 terrs comprising 52 adult males 144 adult females and 279 children surrendered to troops within the theatre of operations.
b. Surrender of ISWAP Terr Commander. On 23 May 24, a total of 6 ISWAP/JAS terrorists fighters including one terrorist commander identified as Adamu Muhammad, surrendered to in Monguno LGA of Borno State. Troops recovered 111 rounds of 7.62mm special and 3 AA rounds.
c. Ambush on BH/ISWAP Terrorists. On 21 May 2024, troops with hybrid forces while on patrol ambushed suspected/JAS and made contact in Gwoza LGA of Borno State. Following a fire fight, troops neutralized 12 terrorists and recovered 7 AK47 rifles, 4 fabricated rifles, 130 rounds of 7.62mm special, 85 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm ammo, 3 motorcycles and one mobile phone amonsgt others.
d. Arrests of Suspected BH/ISWAP/JAS Terrorists collaborators.
(1) On 21 and 22 May 2024, troops in separate operations arrested 6 suspected BH/ISWAP/JAS terrorists collaborators and informants in Monguno and Geidam LGAs of Borno and Yobe States respectively. During the operations, troops recovered 3 mobile phones and the sum of N229,000.00 only amongst others.
(2) Between 22 and 26 May 2024, troops with hybrid forces in separate routine patrols arrested 24 suspected ISWAP/JAS terrorists collaborators and informants in Geidam, Gujba and Nguru LGAs of Yobe Stateas well as Monguno and MMC LGAs of Borno State respectively. During the operations, troops recovered 33 rounds of 7.62mm special, one military camel bag, 3 motorcycles, 5 mobile phone and the sum of N197,000.00 amongst others.
e. Raid Operation. On 22 May 2024, troops in conjunction with hybrid forces responded to information on the movement of unknown gunmen suspected to be terrorists in Gombi LGA of Adamawa State. During the operation, troops made contact with terrorists. Following a fire fight, troops neutralized 7 terrorists and recovered 7 AK47 rifles and 162 rounds of 7.62mm special.
f. Offensive Operations.
(1) On 22 and 23 May 2024, troops in separate offensive operations made contact with ISWAP/JAS terrorists in Gombi and Yola LGAs of Adamawa State. Following a fire fight, troops neutralized 4 terrorists and 13 suspected drug peddlers. Troops also recovered 4 AK47 rifles, 76 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo and 2 motorcycles amongst others.
(2) Between 22 and 26 May 2024, troops with hybrid forces in separate offensive operations made contact with BH/ISWAP terrorists fighters in Geidam and Gujba LGAs of Yobe State as well as Madagali LGA of Adamawa State. Additionally, troops conducted operations in Mafa, Chibok, Ngal, Bama and Magumeri LGAs of Borno State. Following a fire fight, troops neutralized 14 terrorists and arrested 4 suspects. Troops also recovered 4 AK47 rifles, 6 dane guns, 5 magazines, one rocket launcher, 212 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 243 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammo (belted), 171 rounds of 5.56mm ammo, one sliding rod and 5 motorcycles amongst others.
g. Recovered of UXO. On 25 May 2024, troops while on routine patrol responded to information on discovery of UXO in a farm land in Mobbar LGA of Borno State. Troos EOD team recovered UXO (1 x 120mm mor bomb).

• Air Interdiction. On 22 and 24 May 2024, the air component of Operation HADIN KAI in multiple passes conducted air interdiction following Human Intelligence and confirmatory ISR on the movement and activities of suspected BH/ISWAP/JAS terrorists in Tumbun Fulani and Kirta Wulgo areas of Lake Chad Basin. The locations targets were acquired and engaged with rockets and bombs. Battle Damage Assessment revealed that several terrorists were neutralized along with their logistics.

SUMMARY

4. Overall, troops of Operation HADIN KAI neutralized 69 terrorists, arrested 87 suspects and rescued 28 kidnappers hostages. Troops recovered 45 AK47 rifles, 4 fabricated rifles, 10 dane guns, one UXO (1 x 120mm mortar bomb), one rocket launcher, 15 magazines, one AA round, 1,375 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 584 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 85 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm ammo, 171 rounds of 5.56mm ammo, 2 baofeng radios, 13 motorcycles, 9 mobile phones and the sum of N517,000.00 only amongst others.

JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION SAFE HAVEN (NORTH CENTRAL)

5. Troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN recorded the following during the period under review; rescue of kidnapped hostages, conducted raid, offensive and counter/anti kidnapping Operations in Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Shendam, Bokkos, Bassa, Jos North and South LGAs of Plateau State.
6. Details are as follows: 

a. Rescue of Kidnapped Hostage. On 20 May 2024, troops while on routine patrol rescued one master Destiny in Barkin Ladi LGA of Plateau State. Preliminary investigation revealed that the hostage was earlier abducted by unidentified persons in Jos South LGA on 19 May 24.
b. Raid Operation. On 21 May 2024, troops raided a violent extremists known as Sara Suka’s syndicate hideout in Jos North LGA of Plateau State. During the operation, troops arrested 9 suspected extremists/Sara Suka elements and recovered one motorcycle, 3 cutlasses, 7 knives and a NP PCRC ID card.
c. Offensive Operations. Between 22 and 27 May 2024, troops in separate offensive operations made contact with violent extremists/kidnappers and armed robbers in Barkin Ladi, Riyom and Shendam LGAs of Plateau State as well as Kaura and Jema’a LGAs of Kaduna State. Following a fire fight, troops neutralized 4 insurgents and arrested 4 suspected extremists. Troops recovered one fabricated pistol, one fabricated shot gun with 2 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo and 6 cartridges.
d. Counter/Anti Kidnapping Criminality Op. Between 23 and 27 May 2024, troops in separate counter/anti kidnapping operations arrested 6 suspected violent extremists/terrorists in Bokkos, Barkin Ladi and Riyom LGAs of Plateau State.
e. Arrest Operations. Between 24 and 27 May 2024, troops in separate fighting patrols intercepted and arrested 24 suspected violent extremists in Riyom and Bassa LGAs of Plateau State. During the operations, troops recovered 6 AK47 rifles, 15 magazines, 500 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo and the sum of N26,500 only.

SUMMARY

7. Overall, troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN neutralized 13 insurgents, arrested 63 violent extremists and rescued 20 kidnapped hostages. Troops recovered 6 AK47 rifles, one locally fabricated pistol, one locally fabricated shot gun, 15 magazines, 502 rounds of 7.62mm special, 6 cartridges, one motorcycle, 3 cutlasses, 7 knives and the sum of N26,500.00 amongst others.

OPERATION WHIRL STROKE (NORTH CENTRAL)

8. Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE recorded the following during the week under review; responded to attack by suspected violent extremists /armed herders and arrest of suspected violent extremists in Gwer, Ukum and Lau LGAs of Benue State as well as Karim Lamido LGA of Taraba State respectively.
9. Details are as follows: 

a. Armed Herders Attack. On 20 May 2024, troops responded to information on suspected violent extremists/armed herders attack on commuters in Gwer West LGA of Benue State. Troops exploited the general area and rescued an injured victim.
e. Arrest of Suspected Terrorists.
(1) On 21 May 2024, troops with hybrid forces while conducting patrol arrested 3 violent extremists/terrorists in Karim Lamido LGA of Taraba State. During the operations, troops recovered 3 motorcycles.
(2) Between 22 and 25 May 2024, troops in separate operations arrested 17 suspected violent extremists/terrorists in Karim Lamido and Lau LGAs of Taraba State as well as Ukum LGA of Benue State.

SUMMARY

10. Overall, troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE neutralized 3 terrorists, arrested 29 violent extremists and rescued 11 kidnapped hostages.

JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION HADARIN DAJI (NORTH WEST)

11. The troops of Operation HADARIN DAJI recorded the following during the period under review; conducted fighting patrols, offensive and arrest operations as well as responded to information on activities of suspected terrorists in Kankara, Maru, Gusau and Maradun LGAs of Zamfara State as well as Batsari and Danmusa LGAs of Katsina State. Additionally, troops conducted operations in Goronyo and Yabo LGAs of Sokoto State as well as Birnin Gwari and Giwa LGAs of Kaduna State.
12. Details are as follows;

a. Fighting Patrol. On 22 May 2024, troops in separate fighting patrols operations responded to report on the activities of suspected terrorists in Kankara and Maradun LGAs of Zamfara State. During the operations, troops made contact with terrorists. Following a fire fight, troops neutralized 7 terrorists and recovered 7 AK47 rifles, one PKT gun with 111 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm, 119 rounds of 7.62mm special, 2 motorcycles and 9 SIM cards.
b. Offensive Operations. Between 22 and 28 May 2024, troops in separate offensive operations made contact with terrorists in Bungudu, Maru and Gusau LGAs of Zamfara State as well as Batsari and Danmusa LGAs of Katsina State. Additionally, troops conducted operations in Goronyo and Yabo LGAs of Sokoto State as well as Birnin Gwari and Giwa LGAs of Kaduna State. Following a fire fights, troops neutralized 22 and arrested 123 suspects. Troops also recovered 2 G3 rifles, 7 AK47 rifles, 3 locally fabricated guns, 4 dane guns, 3 pump action guns, 3 magazines, 115 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 132 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 34 live cartridges, 20 motorcycles, 2 baofeng radios and military accoutrements amongst others.
c. Terrorists Activities. Between 22 and 25 May 2024, troops in separate operations responded to information on activities of suspected terrorists/Kidnappers and made contact in Maru and Maradun LGAs of Zamfara State as well as Gudu and Isa LGAs of Sokoto State respectively. Following a fire fights, troops neutralized 11 terrorists and arrested 13 suspects. Troops also recovered one PKT gun, 4 AK47 rifles, 4 locally fabricated rifles, 111 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm, 119 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo and 8 motorcycles amongst others.

d. Arrest Operations. On 26 May 24, following a tip-off, troops intercepted and arrested one suspected notorious terrorists identified as Bello Abdul in Gudu LGA of Sokoto State.

13. Air Interdiction. Following INTREP and confirmatory ISR on relocation and hibernating of suspected terrorists including enclaves of terrorists kingpins Kachalla Ruga, Haiyu and Sani Muhindinge in Safana and Anka LGAs of Katsina and Zamfara States respectively. The air component of Operation HADARIN DAJI in multiple passes conducted air interdiction on 20 and 22 May 2024. The locations were observed to be active with terrorists activities, subsequently, it was acquired and attacked with bombs and rockets. Battle Damage Assessment revealed that several terrorists were eliminated and their structures destroyed.

SUMMARY 

15. Overall, troops of Operation HADARIN DAJI neutralized 63 terrorists, arrested 157 terrorists and rescued 25 kidnapped hostages, Troops recovered 2 G3 rifles, 18 AK47 rifles, 2 PKT guns, 7 fabricated rifles, 4 dane guns, 3 pump action guns, 238 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 132 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 230 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm ammo, 34 cartridges, 3 magazines, 2 baofeng radios and 30 motorcycles amongst others.

JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION WHIRL PUNCH (NORTH WEST)

16. The troops of Operation WHIRL PUNCH recorded the following during the week under review; conducted offensive, raid and arrested operations as well as counter/anti kidnapping operations in Ikara, Giwa and Kagarko LGAs of Kaduna State as well as Bwari Area Council of FCT Abuja. Additionally, in Borgu LGA of Niger State.
17. Details are as follows;

a. Offensive Operation. On 21 and 22 May 2024, troops with hybrid forces in separate operations made contact with suspected violent extremists/kidnappers in Ikara, Giwa and Kagarko LGAs of Kaduna State. Following a fire fight, troops neutralized 2 extremists and arrested 2 suspected kidnapper/informant. During the operations, troops recovered 2 dane guns, 43 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 3 mobile phones and the sum of N250,000.00 only.
b. Raid Operation. On 23 May 2024, following reports troops raided a suspected notorious violent extremists/informant reisident in Bwari Area Council of FCT. During the operation, troops arrested the suspect along with 2 female suspected accomplices. Troops also recovered one barretta pistol, 21 rounds of 9mm ammo, 2 mobile phones, 5 ATM different banks with different names amongst others.
c. Counter/Anti Kidnapping and Criminality Op. On 22 May 2024, troops while on counter/anti kidnapping operations responded to activities of suspected violent extremist/kidnappers in Borgu LGA of Niger State. During the operation, troops rescued one kidnapped hostage.
d. Arrest Operations. On 23 May 2024, troops while on fighting parto intercepted and arrested 4 suspected violent extremists in Kajuru LGA of Kaduna State.

18. Air Interdiction. On 23 May 2024, following confirmation of BH/ISWAP terrorists in Alawa Forest in Shiroro LGA of Niger State. Terrorists are responsible for causing mayhem around Shiroro, Rafi and Munya LGAs of the same State. Consequently, the air component of Operation WHIRL PUNCH conducted air interdiction at the location. Overhead, the selected target was acquired and engaged with bombs. Battle Damage Assessment and locals feedback revealed that several terrorists were neutralized and their structures destroyed.

SUMMARY

• Overall, troops of Operation WHIRL PUNCH neutralized 8 terrorists, arrested 20 suspects and rescued 16 kidnapped hostages. Troops recovered one barretta pistol, 2 dane guns, 43 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 21 rounds of 9mm ammo, 5 mobile phones and the sum of N250,000.00 only amonsgt others.

JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION DELTA SAFE (SOUTH SOUTH)

20. Troops of Operation DELTA SAFE maintained momentum against the activities of crude oil theft. Troops destroyed several illegal refining sites and recovered stolen products. Troops also conducted offensive and arrest operations in Ovia and Ikpoba-Okha LGAs of Edo State as well as Oshimili and Ishielu LGAs of Delta and Ebonyi States. Troops conducted operations in Uyo and Oron LGAs of Akwa Ibom as well as Osisioma LGA of Abia State.
21. Details as follows:

a. Troops Destroy Illegal Refining Sites. Troops recovered 746,350 litres of stolen crude oil and 137,650 litres of illegally refined AGO. Additionally, Troops discovered and destroyed 21 dugout pits, 28 boats, 70 drums, 11 receiver, 10 reservoirs and 146 storage tanks. Other items recovered include 181 cooking ovens, 2 barges, 17 vehicles, 6 motorcycles, 2 mobile phones, 15 wheelbarrows and 65 illegal refining sites.
b. Offensive Operation. On 23 May 2024, troops on offensive operations raided a suspected violent extremist/notorious drug peddlers’ hideout in Ikpoba-Okha LGA of Edo State. During the operation, troops recovered 2 mobile phones illicit substances and the sum of ₦105,000.00 only.
c. Counter/Anti Kidnapping and Criminality Op.
(1) On 24 May 2024, troops responded to a distress call on a communal clash between Igbobi and Agho-Ozomu communities in Ovia North East LGA of Edo State. During the operation, troops arrested 11 suspects and recovered one single barrel gun and 11 cartridges.
(2) Between 22 and 24 May 2024, troops in separate counter/anti kidnapping operations intercepted and arrested 5 suspected violent extremists/IPOB/ESN in Oshimili and Ishielu LGAs of Delta and Ebonyi States as well as Osisioma LGA of Abia State. During the operations, troops recovered 2 locally fabricated pistols, one locally fabricated pump action gun, 5,462 rounds of 7.62 mm NATO, 1,289 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammo, 450 rounds of 9mm x 19mm ammo and 66 cartridges amonsgt others.
d. Arrest Operations.
(1) On 26 May 2024, following a tip-off, troops arrested one suspected violent extremist/kidnapper informant identified as Mr Tarim Ade in Ovia South-West LGA of Edo State.
(2) On 25 and 26 May 2024, troops in separate fighting patrols intercepted and arrested 10 suspected violent extremists/kidnappers in Uyo and Oron LGAs of Akwa Ibom State as well as Ogbia LGA of Bayelsa State respectively.

SUMMARY

22. Overall, troops of Operation DELTA SAFE recovered 746,350 litres of stolen crude oil and 137,650 litres of illegally refined AGO. Additionally, Troops discovered and destroyed 21 dugout pits, 28 boats, 70 drums, 11 receiver, 10 reservoirs and 146 storage tanks. Other items recovered include 181 cooking ovens, 2 barges, 17 vehicles, 6 motorcycles, 2 mobile phones, 15 wheelbarrows and 65 illegal refining sites.
23. Troops neutralized 4 violent extremists and apprehended 16 suspected oil thefts and other violent extremists. Troops recovered 15 weapons and 5,989 assorted ammunitions.

JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION UDO KA (SOUTH EAST)

24. Troops of Operation UDO KA recorded the following during the week under review; troops foiled kidnapping incident, arrested suspected violent extremists/illegal miners and conducted counter/anti kidnapping operations in Nsukka and Abakaliki LGAs of Enugu and Ebonyi States as well as Idemili North and Onitsha LGAs of Anambra State.
25. Details as follows:

a. Foiled Kidnap Incident. On 21 May 2024, troops responded to a distress call on kidnapping incident in Nsukka LGA of Enugu State. During the operation, troops 3 kidnapped hostages and recovered 2 vehicles.
b. Arrest of Suspected Illegal Miners. On 22 May 2024, troops raided a suspected illegal mining site and arrested 12 illegal miners in Abakaliki LGA of Ebonyi State. Arrested suspects comprise 2 NP personnel, 7 civilians and 3 Chinese Nationals. Troops also recovered 2 sacks containing 241 water gel explosives from the suspected illegal miners.
b. Counter/Anti Kidnapping Criminality Op. On 21 and 23 May 2024, troops in separate counter/anti Kidnapping operations responded to information on activities of suspected violent extremists/kidnappers in Nsukka and Urban Effium Ohaukwu LGAs of Enugu and Ebonyi States respectively. During the operations, troops rescued 3 kidnapped hostages and recovered empty case of 7.62mm special as well as 2 vehicles
c. Arrest Operations. Between 22 and 28 May 2024, troops in separate arrested 6 suspected violent extremists/IPOB/ESN members in Ivo And Udenu LGAs of Ebonyi and Enugu States as well as Idemili North and Onitsha LGAs of Anambra State. During the operations, 2 AK47 rifles, 3 dane guns, 11 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 33 cartridges, one vehicle and 3 mobile phones amongst others.

SUMMARY

26. Overall, troops of Operation UDO KA neutralized 7 terrorists, arrested 24 violent extremists and rescued 11 kidnapped hostages. Troops recovered 2 AK47 rifles, 3 dane guns, 4 pump action guns, 87 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 33 live cartridges, 2 HH radios, 5 vehicles and 4 mobile phones amongst other.

JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION AWATSE (SOUTH WEST)

27. Troops of Operation AWATSE recorded the following during the week under review; troops conducted offensive and arrested operations in Ifelodun and Edu LGA of Kwara State as well as Olorunsogo and Owo LGAs of Oyo and Ondo States.
28. Details as follows:

a. Offensive Operations. On 24 and 27 May 2024, troops in separate operations conducted offensive operations in Irepo LGA of Oyo State as well as Ifelodun and Edu LGA of Kwara State. During the operations, troops arrested 20 suspects and recovered 2 locally made guns, 33 live cartridges, 2 motorcycles and 3 mobile phones.
b. Arrest Operations. On 22 and 25 May 2024, troops in separate operations arrested 34 suspected violent extremists and kidnappers in in Edu and Ifelodun LGAs of Kwara State as well as Olorunsogo and Owo LGAs of Oyo and Ondo Statey. During the operations, troops recovered one locally made pistol, 3 mobile phones and the sum of N400,000.00 only amongst others.

SUMMARY

• Overall, troops of Operation AWATSE arrested 54 violent extremists and recovered one locally made pistol, 2 locally fabricated guns, 76 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 33 cartridges and 6 mobile phones amongst other. All recovered items, arrested suspects and rescued hostages were handed over to the relevant authority for further action.

JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION HADIN KAI (NORTH EAST)

1. Troops of Operation HADIN KAI conducted operations deep in terrorist enclaves in Sambisa Forest and the Tumbuns of the Lake Chad Region. The targeted operations where to terrorist Commanders and leaders strongholds.
2. Troops made contact in Sambisa Forest  at NGOROMARI Village, ALAFA Village, UKUBA, GARIN GULUKOS, SHABABUL UMMA, GARIN PANEL BEATER , LAGARA ANGUWAN GWAIGWAI andGARIN ABU AMIR.
3. Others locations where troops made contact include: GARIN FALLUJAH in UKUBA, FULATARI, KAGO, SABIL HUDA, IRAQI, ALAFA CROSS and  LAWANTI  amongst others. Troops neutralised one Mallam MOHAMMED the leader of IED cell in Sambisa Forest. Furthermore, troops rescued 386 hostages, most of whom had been in captivity for over 10years. The rescued hostages were handed over to the Borno State Government.
4. The operations denied the terrorist the ability to carry out major offensive. It also significantly diminished the terrorist offensive capability, limiting the terrorist to low level skirmishes and attacks that are more prevalent on soft targets.
5. Overall, troops neutralised 306 terrorist, arrested 199 suspects and rescued 219 kidnapped hostages. Meanwhile, troops recorded 1,099 surrendered BH/ISWAP terrorists combatants and their families.
6. The summary of recovered items include 200 AK47 rifles, 34 fabricated, 53 fabricated rifles, 95 dane guns, 50 assorted arms, 4,852 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 1,497 rounds of 7.62mm NATO and 2,710 assorted ammunitions.

8. Air Interdiction. The air component of Operation HADIN KAI conducted air interdiction to terrorists locations in Maradun, Southern Tumbun Fulani and Dogon in Zamfara and Lake Chad Basin destroying acquired terrorist, the logistics and infrastructure.

JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION SAFE HAVEN (NORTH CENTRAL)

9. Troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN conducted several offensive and raids operations to hideouts of terrorist and violent extremist. The operations yielded significant successes including: recovery of arms and ammunitions as well as arrest of suspected violent extremists including kidnappers, gunrunners, armed robbers, murderes, imposters as well as cattle rustlers.
10. Additionally , troops in fierce contact with violent extremists/terrorists neutralized several terrorists and rescued several kidnapped hostages. Furthermore, recovered rustled livestock.
11. Overall, troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN neutralized 39 terrorist violent extremist, arrested 140 suspects and rescued 77 kidnap hostages.
12. Troops equally recovered 9 AK47 rifles, 13 fabricated guns, 16 assorted arms, 264 rounds of 7.62mm special, 133 rounds of 7.62mm NATO and 140 assorted ammunitions.

OPERATION WHIRL STROKE (NORTH CENTRAL)

15. Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE conducted operations to combat security threats posed by banditry, kidnapping, gunrunning, and herders/farmers clashes. The operations have significantly mitigated security challenges in Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States. The key threats faced by troops in the area in the region include, banditry by various militia groups, Farmers/herders clashes between herder militias and indigenes, kidnapping for ransom by suspected herder militia, gunrunning activities by suspected indigenes of Benue, Nasarawa and Taraba States.
16. Troops onslaught has largely degraded the potency of bandit groups. However, isolated cases of kidnapping still occur, such as the recent attack on a bus traveling from Abuja to Port Harcourt, resulting in the kidnapping of all passengers, including a military officer. Furthermore, as the rainy season sets in, communal clashes and farmers/herders conflicts are expected to increase due to encroachment on farmlands. However, with the support of sister services and other security agencies, troops continue to optimize their operations against terrorist and their cohorts.
17. Several operations to violent extremists strongholds and recorded several significant achievements during the month. Troops recorded the following: arrest of violent extremists, terrorist collaborators as well as gunrunners identified as Usman Shu’ibu, Tukur Bala, Shu’ibu Alh Uma, Akuma Tade, Daniel Ugbakuma and Mallam Umar Usman.
18. Troops also arrested violent extremists/logistics suppliers of Ambazonian rebels of Cameroon including a notorious violent extremist identified as Jafaru Adamu, Auwal Haruna, Umar Dahiru, Mubarak Abdullahi, Saidu Musa, Bashiru Ibrahim, Danlami Yahuaza, Abubakar Abdullahi and Mr Ibro Shuaibu.
19. Additionally, troops arrested the second a terrorist second in Command to a notorious terrorist commander known as Full-Fire identified as Mr Terkaa Mvenda Atoba.
20. Overall, troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE neutralized 41 terrorist, arrested 184 suspects and rescued 48 kidnapped hostages. Troops also recovered 18 AK47 rifles, 27 assorted arms, 2,237 rounds of 7.62mm special, 297 rounds of 7.62mm NATO and 201 assorted ammunitions.

JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION HADARIN DAJI (NORTH WEST)

22. The major security threats witnessed during the period under review include kidnap for ransom, attack on remote communities and communal clash. Troops sustained offensive operations to destroy and disrupt terrorists across the Theatre.
23. The operations instigated rival clash among the terrorist groups leading to the death of terrorist commander Usman Modi Modi. He hitherto terrorized communities around Danmusa, Kankara and Safana LGAs of Katsina State. The synergy with other security and intelligence agencies assisted greatly in the optimal performance of the troops in their operations against the terrorists in the NW Zone.
24. Nevertheless, troops of Op HADARIN DAJI neutralized 262 terrorist, arrested 204 suspects and rescued 243 kidnap hostages.
25. Troops recovered 137 AK47 rifles, 50 fabricated guns, 66 assorted arms, 3,665 rounds of 7.62mm special, 1,445 rounds of 7.62mm NATO and 354 assorted ammunitions.

27. Air Interdiction. The air component of Operation HADARIN DAJI recorded significant air strikes on acquired terrorists enclaves/camps in Faskari, Bayan Ruwa, Maradun, Anka LGA of Zamfara State where terrorists kingpins Jammo Smally and Kachalla Halilu as well as their cohorts are hibernating. Also, the air component destroyed terrorists enclave at Tungar Daji in Zamfara State. The terrorist were responsible for banditry, abduction and other criminal activities in the general area. Similarlly, in Rugu Forest located in Safana LGA of Katsina State. Air strikes were conducted on acquired terrorist Commanders enclaves namely: Kachalla Ruga, Haiyu and Sani Muhindinge enclaves.

JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION WHIRL PUNCH (NORTH WEST)

28. Troops of Operation WHIRL Punch intensified effort against terrorist and violent extremist in the conduct of operations. Significantly, offensive operations such as fighting patrols, raids ambushes and clearance patrols were conducted to terrorist hideouts and enclaves. The terrorist were denied freedom of action with their combat capabilities diminished.
29. Troops of Operation WHIRL PUNCH recorded the following in the month of May 2024. Troops neutralized 56 terrorist, arrested 150 suspects and rescued 80 kidnap hostages.
30. Troops equally recovered 23 AK47 rifles, 30 assorted arms, 670 rounds of 7.62mm special, 71 rounds of 7.62mm NATO and 130 assorted ammunitions.

32. Air Interdiction. The air component of Operation WHIRL PUNCH conducted air interdiction missions to terrorists training camp in Kuduru, Giwa LGA of Kaduna State. The targeted terrorists enclaves/camps located at KABAGO, ALAWA Forest, KATARMA and KWAKI general areas in Shiroro and Chikun LGAs of Niger and Kaduna States were effectively engaged.

JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION DELTA SAFE (SOUTH SOUTH)

33. Troops of Op DELTA SAFE maintained the momentum against the activities of crude oil theft. Troops continued to find and destroyed illegal refining sites as well as arrest the perpetrators of oil theft.
34. During the month of May 2024, troops of Operation DELTA SAFE neutralized 5 violent extremist and arrested 81 persons involved in crude oil theft. Troops also denied the oil theft of 4,124,970 litres of crude oil, 793,796 litres of AGO and 4,480 litres of PMS.
35. Furthermore, troops recovered 73 assorted weapons and destroyed 129 wooden boats, 686 assorted ammunitions and 223 illegal refining sites.

37. Air Interdiction. The Air component of Operation DELTA SAFE acquired and destroyed illegal refining sites in Degema LGA of Rivers State.

JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION UDO KA (SOUTH EAST)

38. Troops of Op UDO KA conducted rigorous clearance operation across the theatre to frustrate the activities of the terrorist group and maintain peace in the region. The operations tamed many security challenges bedeviling the entire South East (SE) region. The major security threats being the activities of the terrorists, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militant wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), illegal bunkering/oil theft as well as weapon and ammunition trafficking. Others are kidnap for ransom, cultism, assassinations and communal clashes.
39. Accordingly, the potency of the secessionist group was largely degraded from hitherto posture. Nevertheless , the group continues to employ opportunistic attacks on soft and hard targets to portray relevance.  However, with the support of sister services and other security agencies, troops have continued to optimize its operations against the terrorist group in the SE.
40. Overall, troops of Op UDO KA in the month of May 24., neutralized 69 terrorist, arrested 115 suspects and rescued 32 kidnap hostages.
41. Additionally, troops recovered 8 AK47 rifles, 13 pump action guns, 270 rounds of 7.62mm special, 636 live cartridges, 51 assorted ammunitions and 15 other equipment.
