16 Days Activism: NAWOJ FCT Advocates Special Court For SGBV, Seeks Stronger Synergy Among CSOs

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ FCT Chapter; has called for formidable force among CSOs, NGOs and most especially Women Organizations towards an effective advocacy and implementation of VAPP Act, SARs AJLC Act amongst other policies in all the States to help curb and eliminate the menace of Sexual Gender Based Violence.

This is contained in a statement jointly signed by the Chairperson of the Chapter, Comrade Annah Daniel and the Secretary Comrade Nkiru Okeke to mark the 2023 16 days activism in Abuja.

The statement stresses the need to promote social justice system that will facilitate the trial and alleviate the plights of the survivors in the country.

It also calls for more political will and proactive steps by government at all levels to ensure severe punishment are given to offenders to serve as deterrent to others.

The statement condemns in totality any act that will undermine the social wellbeing of women and girls; as well as upholding their fundamental rights.

It also highlights the activities lined up for this year’s 16 days of activism to includes:

-Media Appearances in Radio and Television outfits such as Kapital FM (FRCN), Armed forces radio, independent Television (ITV), Trust TV among others to speak on the issues of GBV with the chairperson and executive members.

-Courtesy visits to some government establishment and Non governmental organizations to intimate them about the activism

-Visit to some private schools in Jabi and Utako of FCT, this is aimed at interfacing with the students and teachers on the issue of SGBV, as it affects both male and female.

Under this year’s theme “Orange the world :End Violence Against Women Now” NAWOJ FCT reiterates commitments towards total eradication of all forms of Sexual Gender Based Violence.
